Atlanta Spinal Decompression Video Transcription

Chiropractor Timothy Dembowski: Hello and welcome to Spinal Aid, Atlanta’s number one
franchised spinal decompression facility. I’m Doctor Timothy Dembowski, and I am going to talk a little about a new medical breakthrough, non-surgical spinal decompression.

Statistics show that 8 out of 10 people will suffer from neck and back pain at some point in their life. For many years those who suffer form the debilitating effects of bulging and herniated discs, sciatica, stenosis, and spinal degeneration and arthritis have had little to no alternative to surgery; that is until now.

This painless spinal decompression procedure, illustrated here, starts off with the chriopractor strapping a two-piece harness onto the patient. The chiropractor then has the patient rest against a spinal decompression table that is slowly lowered down.

As soon as the patient is lying flat, the chiropractor adjusts the harness straps. The harness is then connected to the bottom and top of the spinal decompression table. A pillow is put under the patient’s head, and the patient’s knees are raised by placing a wedge beneath them. Patients are often so relaxed on the spinal decompression table that they fall asleep during the painless procedure.

The spinal decompression strap connecting with the body harness is angled to adjust a particular vertebral level. The strap connects to a computer-controlled mechanism that is continually loosed and tightened, gradually pulling on the spine to add space between the vertebrae. The result is the damaged spinal disc is repaired.

Neck pain is relieved on another spinal decompression table that works with a harness designed for the neck region. A patient typically spends about 20 minutes on both of the spinal decompression tables.

Following treatment the chiropractor removes the spinal decompression straps connecting the harness to the table and machine. He also removes leg wedge, pillow, and then raises the table to return the patient to a standing position. The harness is removed completing the spinal decompression
treatment.

Here in our midtown Atlanta facility we have sucessfully saved over 250 patients from under going surgery, a number we are very proud of. This revolutionary back pain therapy is based on alleviating pressure on the delicate tissues that surround the spine, include the spinal discs. Most spinal disc problems are either felt in the neck or low back and here at Spinal Aid Atlanta we treat both with great success.

You may also take a full video tour of our chiropractic office to learn about the many services we offer.

Transcript of the spinal decompression video:

CBS Atlanta News Reporter: If you have to suffer through the pain of a bulging or herniated disc well then you know that up until now there’s basically been one solution – surgery and then more surgery, but now science has brought us spinal decompression. That’s right it’s exactly what it sounds like.

It’s a relatively new treatment that can relieve and even eliminate chronic back pain without the use of drugs or surgery. Instead, a highly specialized machine creates negative pressure on a damaged disc to pull herniated material back into the disc and then it stimulates the body to heal itself.

Atlanta ChiropractorTimothy Dembowski: The results have been remarkable, prior to spinal decompression we were only able to get so far with herniated discs, now we actually have a permanent solution for them. I’d say 80 to 90 percent of our clients find permanent relief, permanent change.

CBS Atlanta News Reporter: The spinal decompression procedure itself is painless. A harness is fitted around your waist, and fastened to the machine, which then tugs at your lower back with nearly imperceptible traction.

Patient: Well it’s very relaxing.

CBS Atlanta News Reporter: Comforting?

Patient: Yeah, it is, no pain at all.

CBS Atlanta News Reporter: And it gets better. Aside from the high rate of success, spinal decompression has no side effects.

Atlanta Chiropractor Timothy Dembowski: With spinal decompression there are no adverse effects, no side effects, and really when you’re done you are done.

CBS Atlanta News Reporter: On average, the number of treatments seems to be about twenty. For some patients a few more or less are needed depending on the severity of the issue. Spinal decompression doesn’t always fix all of the problems all of the time, so Doctor Dembowski prefers a multi-prong approach, including therapy with an ion foot bath and a cold laser.

Atlanta Chiropractor Timothy Dembowski: We’re going to look at the body as a whole and treat it as a whole. A lot of times the spinal decompression is a great thing, if we can get the body healthy, that’s all we need. But for some others there are other complicating factors.

The EB305: A Total Body Detoxification Device

Your body is a gigantic magnet that attracts and holds on
to toxins. Heavy metals, partially oxidized fats, unassimilated
proteins, cholesterol deposits, uric acid, plaque, lactic
acid, and the vast array of chemicals that pervade our water,
air and food attach themselves in ionized form to joints,
organs, arteries, nerves and tissues. These toxins include
chemicals, sprayed pesticides, paint, car fumes, second-hand
smoke, and many others, and can disrupt normal function and
create an environment for disease, allergies and immune system
breakdowns.
We simply can not escape the pollution around us, and our
bodies are playing a constant game of catch-up when it comes
to house cleaning. Not to mention the lack of quality nutrients
we need for these detoxification pathways to run. There is
a solution!

The Solution For Removing Toxins

After foot detox

Now there is a painless and efficient way to dissolve toxic
accumulations no matter where they are located in the body.

The EB-305 Detoxification Unit generates a programmable mix of positive and negative ions (charged atoms) which attach themselves to oppositely charged toxic particles and draws them out of the body through the pores in the feet.

The result over several sessions is a remarkable release of many different toxic materials, a growing feeling of well-being and a significant increase in overall energy. EB-305 detox sessions are 20-30 minutes in length, painless and relaxing. At our chiropractic center you also get to enjoy a chair massage during your detoxification session.

Who Needs Foot Detox?

Anyone seeking to slow aging

Anyone in pain

Persons suffering from allergies

Anyone with low energy

Anyone under severe stress or suffering from fatigue and
burnout

Persons suffering from arthritis

Anyone with heavy metal toxicity

You know that your body is different from others. Wouldn’t it be great if there were a doctor who could recognize these differences and give treatments and lifestyle recommendations based upon your unique and particular needs? There is — because Doctor Dembowski is an Applied Kinesiologist.

Founded in 1964, by a chiropractor named George Goodheart, A.K. is primarily used by practitioners in the natural health fields.

Applied kinesiology is a system which evaluates your structural, chemical, and mental aspects. It employs manual muscle testing along with standard methods of diagnosis. Nutrition, adjustments, diet, acupressure, exercise and education are used to help restore balance and maintain well being throughout life.

The American Chiropractic Association defines applied kinesiology as follows: “This is an approach to chiropractic treatment in which several specific procedures may be combined. Diversified manipulative/ adjusting techniques may be used with nutritional interventions, together with light massage of various points referred to as neurolymphatic and neurovascular points. Clinical decision-making is often based on testing and evaluating muscle strength.”

Applied Kinesiology Testing

In applied kinesiology, every dysfunction in an organ is due to weakness in that organ’s specific corresponding muscle. To determine if a muscle needs help, your chiropractor tests your muscle by applying a force, measuring not the strength of your response, but rather your smoothness when responding.

The results of the testing may indicate the need for physical manipulation of a muscle or joint, or stimulation of acupuncture points.

Acupuncture is practiced by Atlanta chiropractic doctor Dembowski without using needles!

The body is stimulated instead with a laser beam. The practice of acupuncture without needles is called meridian therapy.

What Conditions Can Acupuncture Treat?

Acupuncture textbooks list well over one hundred different conditions that respond well to Acupuncture. The World Health Organization, working in close harmony with the International Acupuncture training center of the Shanghai College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, has indicated Acupuncture is effective in the following conditions:

Acute and chronic pain relief

Migraine

Tension cluster headache and sinus headache

Trigeminal Neuralgia

Bladder dysfunction and bed wetting

Cervical (neck) pain and mid-back pain

Low shoulder pain and tennis elbow

Post-operative pain relief

Gastric problems

Asthma

Allergies

Skin conditions

Hemorrhoids

Abnormal blood pressure

Fatigue

Anxiety

Neurologic syndrome

Various eye problems

This is only a partial list of the numerous conditions Acupuncture has been credited with helping.

Acupuncture Treatments

How Many Acupuncture Treatments Are Usual?

Obviously the number of treatments vary with different conditions and individuals. Chronic problems generally require more treatment than acute ones. Some patients notice an immediate improvement after the first treatment, whereas others may not notice any effect until the seventh or eighth visit. It’s been shown that a certain percentage of patients receive maximum benefit up to three months following a course of therapy. A small number of patients will experience a worsening of symptoms, as the body’s energies are returning to normal. This is usual and no need for alarm when it is followed by improvement.

Researchers internationally agree the usual number of treatments is between eight and sixteen. The usual frequency is between two and four times a week. Patients are urged not to enter an Acupuncture program with the thought of “taking a few” to see what will happen. Even though it is possible to achieve success, a real program with repeat visits would have a better chance for success. Patients are encouraged to be patient with the healing process. If the treatments are recommended and results occur in just five visits, the doctor may elect to discontinue treatments or continue their use to stabilize the condition.

What Is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture, simply stated, is a health science which is used to successfully treat both pain and dysfunction in the body.

Acupuncture has its roots deeply planted in China. In fact, authorities agree the science is between 5,000 and 7,000 years old. Its use spread throughout ancient Egypt, the Middle East, the Roman Empire and later into Western Europe as merchants and missionaries to China told of the amazing discoveries the people of the Orient had developed. Acupuncture did not become known on a national level in the U.S. until 1971 when diplomatic relations between China and America were relaxed.

At first glimpse, Acupuncture appears strange, as its primary notoriety is the utilization of needles placed in the skin at various locations to relieve pain or affect a body part. Early Chinese physicians discovered there is an energy network traversing our bodies, just below the surface of the skin, which communicates from the exterior to the internal organs and structures from over 1,000 “Acupoints” on the body.

This energy works in harmony with the body’s circulatory, nervous, muscular, digestive, genito-urinary, and all other systems of the body. When this vital energy becomes blocked or weakened, an effect in a body system or anatomic location becomes evident. Stimulation of one — or a combination — of key “Acupoints” on the body may restore harmony to the affected area. Historians have stated, “More people have benefited from Acupuncture over the course of fifty centuries than the combined total of all other healing sciences, both ancient and modem.”

What Is Meridian Therapy?

Meridian therapy is the accepted name employed by those who practice the principle of Acupuncture without the use of a penetrating needle. Acupuncture is a principle, not a technique. Therefore, there are many ways to stimulate an Acupoint other than a needle, just as there are many different strokes used in swimming. Many practitioners use electronic stimulation, laser beam, or pressure massage to treat an Acupoint. The principle of Acupuncture does not change, only the technique.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

Far too often in the medical professions, a patient is told after extensive examination, “There is nothing wrong”, “It is all in your head”, or “Sorry, you’ll have to learn to live with it”. The examining doctor, unable to find the cause of the problem, has little else to tell the patient. Fortunately, many physicians are now referring their patients for an Acupuncture evaluation as a last resort.

The human body’s energy flow courses over twelve meridians — or channels, that are normally well balanced. If a disruption of energy flow exists, it can alter the entire system, producing pain or symptoms in the body. If we were to compare a 175 pound man on one end of a seesaw and a 45 pound child on the other end, it becomes obvious the seesaw would be “broken” due to the fact the heavier person would be sitting on the ground and the lighter would be sitting in the air. Despite the seesaw producing a “symptom” of being broken, even extensive examination would not reveal anything wrong with the seesaw.

The obvious answer is in the balance. Correction of the balance corrects the problem with the seesaw. This is Acupuncture’s goal — to restore normalcy to the body’s energy balance by utilizing a combination of Acupoints located on the twelve meridians. This is accomplished by a variety of means, the needle is just one. Medical research continues in this country and others to attempt to explain in western scientific terms what the ancient Chinese described seventy centuries earlier. Today, many theories have been postulated as to why Acupuncture is so effective in pain control. However, as more discoveries are made, more research is indicated.

Is Acupuncture Treatment Painful?

One would assume inserting a needle into the skin would be painful since most of us can relate to being stuck with a pin or having a hypodermic injection. However, Acupuncture needles are so thin that four of them can easily be inserted into the hole of a hypoderic needle! Because of the extreme slenderness of the needle, most people describe the sensation as “less than a mosquito bite.” A phenomenon referred to as “Tehchi” occurs when the energy is contacted. This sensation is felt as a mild to moderate heaviness or tingling.

Needles obviously still have their place in clinical practice. However, many physicians certified in Acupuncture, as well as licensed Acupuncturists are employing electronic and Laser stimulation to the Acupoint with equal effectiveness as the needle. Both of these procedures are painless and are quickly becoming standard worldwide. The tapping needle, or “Teishein” is not really a needle as it does not pierce the skin. It produces a mild to moderate sensation. Compare it to tapping a ball point pen on the skin. This form of stimulation has been used successfully for centuries. Thumb pressure is equally impressive and not considered painful.

Are Acupuncture Results Psychological?

Many critics of Acupuncture have suggested the science is hypnosis or “mind over matter”. This criticism is totally unfounded as Acupuncture has startling effects in infants and toddlers as well as veterinary applications. The effect it has in surgery as an anesthetic further disclaims the skeptics. Even total disbelievers report favorable response to Acupuncture. However, a positive outlook is obviously beneficial in all phases of life to promote healing.

To help patients who are seeking pain relief, Atlanta chiropractic doctor Dembowski may use spinal adjustment, also called spinal manipulation, to adjust the spine into better alignment to correct any subluxations or dysfunctions of the vertebrae.

Restoring spinal structural integrity through chiropractic adjustment can improve your health by reducing pressure on sensitive nerves. Pain is reduced when nerves are not impaired by bones that are out of alignment.

The spine is not the only area that the skilled hands of a chiropractor can adjust. The neck, shoulder, the head’s alignment with the spine, elbow, wrist, knee and leg joints can benefit from chiropractic manipulation.

Sometimes a popping sound is heard when a bone or joint is adjusted to a better position, because a bubble of gas is released from the joint, like when you crack your knuckles. Rarely does the patient experience any pain when the adjustment is performed. Often the patient feels relief immediately.

History of Chiropractic

Hippocrates, the father of medicine who was born in 470 B.C., wrote “Get knowledge of the spine, for this is the requisite for many diseases.”

Another doctor of the time, Herodotus, was renowned for manipulating a patient’s spine to cure disease.

At the end of the 19th century, when Daniel David Palmer came on the health care scene, medicine was leaving an era of proclaimed cure-alls to pursue more scientific investigation into the treatment of disease.

D.D. reasoned that the body had an ample supply of natural healing power transmitted through the nervous system. If a single organ was sick, it must not be receiving its normal nerve supply. That led to the premise of spinal misalignment, or subluxation, and from there to a procedure for adjusting the vertebrae.

D.D. performed his first adjustments in 1895, relieving one man of deafness and another person of heart trouble. Arrangements were made to train others in the application of the chiropractic principle. The Palmer School and Cure was founded in 1897 and was later incorporated under the laws of Iowa. The school later became the Palmer School of Chiropractic.

“I am not the first person to replace subluxated vertebrae, but I do claim to be the first person to replace displaced vertebrae by using the spinous and transverse processes as levers…and to develop the philosophy and science of chiropractic adjustments.” D.D. Palmer, Discoverer of Chiropractic.

The Adjustor is a hand held chiropractic adjusting device that delivers a gentle, low force thrust which is both comfortable and relatively painless. This equals a very dynamic adjustment without the chiropractor having to “force” or “pop” spinal bones into alignment.

Chiropractic Pain Relief With The Percussor

The Percussor is a hand held chiropractic device designed to use percussion as a treatment for musculoskeletal pain and fascial restrictions. The clinical benefits of the percussor include a reduction or elimination of the frequency and intensity of myofascial pain, increased range of motion, and an improved ability to participate in activities of normal daily living.

Cold Laser Therapy

FDA Approved Erchonia PL-5000 Cold Laser.

Some of the biological benefits of low level laser therapy are anti-inflammatory,
edema reduction, reduced fibrous tissue formation, increased tissue activity, stimulated cell growth,
and cell regeneration.

How Does The Erchonia Cold Laser Therapy Work?

The Erchonia Laser is a weak stimulus at a precise wavelength
of light, tuned to produce an optimal physical effect. The
strong effects of this painless and safely tuned laser light
are truly amazing!

The biological law known as Arnt-Schultz shows that such
a weak stimulus can cause strong physiological responses, while
stronger stimuli can retard or even stop responses by the
body!

Because the Erchonia is a ‘line’ laser, it only produces
1 mw of energy – considered a weak stimulus. With an optimized
wavelength of 635 nm, the laser stimulates the body’s
systemic defenses, nerves and repair mechanisms.

What Is The Erchonia Cold Laser?

The Erchonia Laser is a true laser, fully compliant to the
definitions set forth by those great men of science such as
Bose and Einstein who predicted laser in 1924. Laser is an
acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of
Radiation. According to Webster’s Dictionary, lasers
are coherent or marked by logical consistency. The Erchonia
Laser produces an emission of coherent light, generated at
a precise and stable frequency, and in a focused direction.

How Do We Use The Erchonia Cold Laser?

We are able to use the Erchonia Cold Laser to assist all healing modalities in our office due to its unique properties. It has been especially useful in helping people with headaches, migraines, athletic injuries, strains and sprains, muscle spasm, muscle weakness, stiff joints, arthritis, and chronic pain just to name a few. Treatments are painless and short in duration.

Do Studies Demonstrate Healing Properties Of The Erchonia Cold Laser?

Yes, multiple studies had to be conducted in order to receive FDA clearance. One study included the use of the Laser in the treatment of chronic neck and shoulder pain. The conclusion was that the Erchonia Cold Laser was an effective single treatment option for chronic neck and shoulder pain resulting from Osteoarthritis, Muscle Spasms, or cervical/thoracic sprain/strain conditions.

Our Atlanta chiropractor uses the newest methods to treat pain, including H-Wave, which is used by many sports teams and athletes for pain relief.

H-Wave treatment sends a mild, painless electric current through your body to stimulate your nerves and muscles. The body responds by healing the treated areas. The patient lays down and electrodes (like those used for an EKG) are placed on your skin at the treatment area, and attached to a control unit. This soothing therapy has virtually no side effects, except for the very few people who feel some skin irriatation. Unlike pain drugs which mask the symptoms, H-Wave treats your problem by rehabilitating your muscles and nerves.

Patients typically see results after a 30-minute treatment or two. If you wish to know more, you can read about the H-Wave technology on their web site.

Questions About H-Wave

How Does H-Wave Help Your Body?

H-Wave electronically stimulates your neves and muscles, which in turn relieves pain and fosters better circulation.

What Does It Feel Like When You Receive H-Wave Therapy?

The sensation is not painful and the majority of people experience a relaxing feeling in your muscles during treatment.

Does H-Wave Work?

Patients usually see results in one or two 30-minute treatments. In 84% of cases patients using H-Wave reduce their pain medications or increase their functions.

How Often Do You Need H-Wave Treatments?

When you begin you may need treatments several times a day or week, but once your problem lessens then the time between treatments is longer. The effects of H-Wave treatment can be long-lasting.

Is H-Wave FDA Approved? Are Their Studies About It?

The FDA has issued 4 clearances for H-Wave. Several studies measuring the effectiveness of H-Wave have been published.

New Hope For Chronic Back Pain Sufferers

by Atlanta Chiropractic Doctor Timothy Dembowski

reprinted from Physician News Update, Winter 2008

A doctor from Atlanta is using a new medical breakthrough to relieve chronic back pain.

For lower back pain caused by over-exertion, strain or sprain injuries; treatments such as chiropractic, medications and injections may bring relief. But for those suffering from chronic and more severe back pain, there has been little rescue – until now. Dr. Timothy Dembowski, D.C. has recently brought a revolutionary back pain treatment to Atlanta: the revolutionary procedure is known as Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression.

A new medical breakthrough, spinal decompression specializes in treating lower back pain from disc bulges and hernias, sciatica, stenosis, degenerative discs, arthritis or facet syndrome.

It was discovered that the effects of spinal decompression relieved back pain and increased the height of the disc. This led to the development of this new technology, allowing us to rescue those with chronic back pain.

“For years, we’ve seen patients suffer despite multiple opinions and therapies. I’m thrilled to be able to alleviate my patients’ back pain with this new state-of-the-art treatment,” says Dr. Dembowski, D.C.

This non-surgical procedure is ideal for those with clinically unstable lower backs, who have tried medication unsuccessfully or have been scheduled for lengthy or alternative therapies. In fact, clinical studies have even shown spinal decompression is effective on patients scheduled for surgery or for those who unfortunately have already had surgery – and it failed them.

Dr. Dembowski D.C. continues, “the procedure is non-surgical, drug and needle-free and I’m excited to bring it to Atlanta.”

Shocking News About Back Surgery

The most common procedure for herniated spinal discs up to now has been surgery. Yet, a report in the New England Journal of Medicine states that “51% of all back surgery is unnecessary.”

Decompression therapy has provided relief for many patients suffering from the lack pain of herniated invertebrate discs, sciatica and stenosis.

Dr. Dembowski, D.C. responds, “as a doctor, I err of the side of skepticism, especially of anything with such profound miraculous achievement, but the majority of patients recover in a very short period of time with no documented side effects.”

How It Works

Non-surgical spinal decompression creates a negative pressure inside the disc, which draws in any bulging or herniated material, like suction. This stimulates the body to undergo a process known as “fibroblast activity,” producing fresh new tissues and cells. These new cells attach themselves to torn fibers of the disc that cause its contents to bulge. In essence, it’s like a bone healing. When complete, it is stronger than before.
